Are Yankee Candles Really That Much Better?

Published December 9, 2009 - 2 Comments

I recently picked up a couple of scented candles for my place.  They were impulse purchases, as I wandered through the aisles of my local super market.  Cinnamon and Vanilla, if I remember correctly.  I don’t remember what I paid for them, but I remember this – they were a hell of a lot cheaper than any Yankee candle I’ve ever bought as a gift.

And that made me wonder… does it really matter what candle I buy?  Yankee Candles seem to be “the” candle, and they certainly have a huge assortment of scents.  I could probably stand there all day and go through the different scents, and not find one that I don’t enjoy.  Everything from Christmas Tree to Warm Apple Pie.  I don’t know how they do it, but whatever it is, it’s great!

But, other than a wider variety of scents (or aromas, as they’re called by Yankee Candle), is there really a huge difference?  Enough to justify paying upwards of $30/candle?  Do they last longer?  Burn cleaner?  Contain a hidden prize at the bottom?  I don’t know.

Is there really a difference?  A candle is a candle, right?  Or is it?
