We cooked Thanksgiving turkey a little early. I say “we” because I had another chef in the kitchen this year. Actually, when I think about it, I had very little to do with cooking this turkey. My co-chef did a fantastic job with Justin. Yes, Justin.
When I think back to how 2013 started, and where I am now… I was alone in a two bedroom apartment, seeing my kids every other weekend. Flash forward to today… I bought my own house, I see my children considerably more, and I am very much not alone. My wonderful co-chef, Jess, and her equally wonderful children Isaac and Rachel are moving in shortly, and I couldn’t be happier. I spoke a few thoughts before we all sat down to eat yesterday. So much has changed in such a short amount of time, and I’m so thankful that Isaac and Rachel have accepted it all better than I could have ever hoped. Not only have they accepted me and my children, but they’ve been so upbeat about all the changes. I don’t know how they’re doing it. Two new homes. Two news families. Even new schools. That’s a lot to process, and they’ve been amazing through all of this.
I also have my own children to thank for this. The overall impact may not be as drastic, but they’ve still handled all of these changes like little troopers. Everyone knows that it’s not always going to be easy. But we’re all in agreement that we’re looking forward to it.
