Raising Money for Prostate Cancer Canada [guest post]

Published November 7, 2010 - 13 Comments

I know a lot of people aren’t aware that this is Movember…that’s not a typo, it’s MOvember! Basically, Movember is a campaign where men start the month clean-shaven then grow a moustache for the entire month while soliciting donations to “sponsor” their moustache growth. The purpose of the campaign is to raise money and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer. (more info here: http://ca.movember.com/)

So, why am I posting?

My fiance, Richard Carroll, has been participating in mo-growth since the first of the month and has set up his donation page. I have issued a challenge to him, in order to try to raise more money/awareness. The challenge is as follows:

IF WE CAN RAISE 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS BY THE END OF THE MONTH, I WILL WEAR A FAKE MOUSTACHE FOR 24H/DAY FOR 7 DAYS, STARTING AS SOON AS WE HIT $10K.

Both Rich’s and my families have been affected by prostate cancer. His grandad passed away a few years ago, and my grandad is currently suffering (at 94 years old!). We are completely, 100% serious about this challenge and are using EVERY possible social networking tool to try to get some exposure.

Please feel free to donate via this link: http://bit.ly/bHMGqE

Rich and I are doing this on our own and not affiliated with either of our workplaces or any other groups. We’re just two people who decided to make things a little more interesting to raise money for a cause that has directly impacted our families. Rich is CONVINCED that with enough exposure, we CAN reach $10k before the end of the month. I think he’s crazy, but I am definitely prepared to rock a ‘mo for a week if we manage to reach his goal!
