When I started this blog back in 2008, I don’t think that anyone actually expected I’d still be writing here 5 years later… least of all me! But here we are… November 7th 2013… my 1000th blog post.
I’ve been writing different versions of this post in my head for months. I knew that #1000 would likely come sometime during the fall. It really should have happened already, but I think that I started to spread my posts out… maybe in an attempt to stall the inevitable?
Over the last 5 years this blog has served as a personal outlet of sorts. Through good times and bad, I’ve sat in front of the keyboard and just wrote. Sometimes it was funny. Other times it was not. But no matter what I wrote there were people who continued to read. Thank you.
This will be the last regular post for WhatAboutStephen. I don’t believe that there’s much more that I can accomplish with this blog. I believe that it’s run its course. In truth, maybe it could have closed its doors a little earlier… but there was always something about reaching that 1000th post. I don’t think many amateur bloggers reach that point.
So it’s time to move onto new opportunities. I will continue writing, but it won’t be in this space. I have no plans to let the domain go, and who knows.. I may come back to my old stomping ground from time to time… but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
To all my readers… and especially the ones who have been there from the beginning…
Thank you for reading. You have no idea how much it means to me.
I’ve been quietly watching the number climb over the last couple of weeks… then it hung at 999 for a day or so, while I pondered what I was going to do when it hit the magical 1000 mark… Would I give away a car to the person who posted the 1000th comment? How about a giant cheque? Or a huge bash!
I was still thinking about it when I noticed an email come in, notifying me of a comment having been posted on the blog.
No way?! 1000 comments!? WHOHOOOO!!
That comment was left by one of my best friends in the whole wide world, Murph… who abandoned me years ago in pursuit of the American dream… Damn him! But it has treated him and his family well, so I don’t harbour any ill feelings.
So in your honour, Murph… I’m playing our song… If I Had $1,000,000… and after that.. maybe a little Whitney… oh yes.. you know what I’m talking about…
And to everyone else who has commented since the blog went live.. thank you so very much! I couldn’t have gotten to this point without you!
Thanks for reading!
