- Britney Spears
As much as I like Lea Michele, she’s far from the only talent on Glee. Brittany (played by Heather Morris) is a hilarious character, but because she constantly has that blank “dumb as a post” stare, you rarely get to see her looking “natural”. The exception to that rule is during a dance routine, where she is easily one of the best dancers there. I’m pretty sure that I read once that she has danced backup for Britney Spears. She’s good. Really good.
I was quite surprised to see the new Back to School ad on TV. I didn’t immediately recognize Heather as the shopper in the store. I really should have, though.
And yes… she can dance.
I’ll admit… there were a few times during certain later episodes that I began to question my commitment to the show. Was the novelty factor wearing thin? Had Rachel Berry’s annoying personality traits finally trumped those little skirts? Had the incessant show tunes pushed me over the edge of insanity? These are all valid questions, but in the end, the answer was “no”. I stuck with it, and watched through until the final episode of season 1.
That’s not to say that there weren’t times that I didn’t get up to get something to drink, and just let it play… I’ve never been a show tunes kinda guy. Every episode has at least one song that I’d rather not listen to, but that’s fine… it’s a Glee club. I get it. It makes sense that they would do music like that. Thankfully, they also add songs that I’m more familiar with… Journey, Madonna, Beyonce, Lady Gaga… and tonight… Britney Spears! How can you wrong with Britney? You can’t! Yeah, she’s a train wreck half the time, but you still can’t take your eyes off of her! And lately, I think that her image has rebounded a little… despite that poor bodyguard’s claim that he was emotionally scarred for life by being subjected to seeing her in the nude. Yeah… somebody please inflict that level of pain and suffering on me.
So tonight I will kick my feet up on the coffee table, lean back, and enjoy what has quickly become one of my favourite shows on TV. For someone who once dismissed it without having even watched a single episode… this is quite a feat.
Sorry, fellow Gleeks… I was a little late to the party, but I’m here now!
