Thanks to now-Tropical Storm Earl, I had the second worst day at work ever. Earl unexpectedly changed course, and managed to flatten much of Nova Scotia’s power infrastructure, at one point putting nearly 230,000 customers in the dark. Needless to say… it made for a somewhat hectic day at the office. I don’t think that I’ve ever seen 12 hours fly by as quickly as they did today, and I’m expecting things to be somewhat similar tomorrow morning when I step gingerly onto the floor, and cross my fingers that the NS Power trucks have made some headway… When there are power problems, it makes my life miserable. When there are 230,000 customers without power… it makes my life unbearable. At one point all I wanted to do was crawl under my desk and curl up in the fetal position and put my headphones on. Yes, it was that bad.
I earned my money today, that’s for sure.
The tale of two Earls… One of these was a hilarious sitcom character, canceled far too soon. The other was a former Category 4 hurricane, downgraded earlier than expected. Take a good look at these two pictures, and try to decide which one you’d rather have show up at your house Friday night.
Sure, Earl Hickey was always good for a laugh… trying to do good for all the bad things that he’d done in his life. But Hurricane Earl… well he’s not all bad… Ummm… It’s been a bit of a dry summer… When Earl comes to a party, he takes BYOB to a new level!
Earl Hickey… never a dull moment! I’m sure the same can be said about Hurricane Earl too! You just have to look on the bright side. What else did you have planned for the final long weekend of the summer? Exactly!
Here’s a great link with an interactive map of Hurricane Earl’s progress. As you can clearly see, he’s coming right up the Bay of Fundy… Oh yeah… this should be an interesting weekend.
