You Shop Like an Old Lady

You shop like an old lady.”

I couldn’t help myself.  I started to laugh and just kept walking.  I was in the grocery store, picking up a few things for supper at work.  I happened to be walking by the mother-daughter duo when I heard the teenager say that.  It was funny.  I have no idea in what context it was said, but it was funny.

A little bit later I was standing at the deli counter waiting for my Angus roast beef to be sliced, and I noticed the mother standing beside me.  I glanced at her.  Blonde ponytail.  She certainly didn’t look like an old lady.  I looked away.  Then back to her.

“Did I hear that you shop like an old lady?”

She laughed… “Yeah… My daughter doesn’t look at the prices on things.. I do… I guess that makes me an old lady.”

I reached for my roast beef as it was handed to me, and said to the woman “I wouldn’t listen to her…”  She smiled at me as I turned and walked away.  I’m not totally sure, but I think I might have made her day.
